Rev 6:11 (The Scriptures 1998+) And there was given to each one a white robe, and they were told that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brothers, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
Rev 6:11 (Bishop’s) And long whyte garmentes were geuen vnto euery one of them: and it was sayde vnto them, that they should reste yet for a litle season, vntyll the number of their felowes, and brethren, and of them that shoulde be kylled as they were, were fulfylled.
Rev 6:11 (MKJV) And white robes were given to each one of them. And it was said to them that they should rest yet for a little time, until both their fellow servants and their brothers (those about to be killed as they were ) should have their number made complete.
Rev 6:11 (NASB) And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.
Rev 6:11 (CJB) Each of them was given a white robe; and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants should be reached, of their brothers who would be killed , just as they had been.
Rev 6:11 (Rotherham’s Emphasized Bible) And there was given to them, each one, a white robe, and it was bidden them, that they should rest yet’ a little while – until the number should be made full of their fellow servants also, and their brethren, who were about to be slain as even || they ||.
These are just a few versions with variations of phrases which include the word NUMBER in them. The standard KJV which most people read and study from does not include this.
Looking back at verse 9 of chapter 6, we find another clue:
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
There are TWO qualifiers in that verse that can also be found elsewhere:
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
- Slain for the word of God
- The testimony that they held
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The 144k will meet the criteria of these two qualifiers.
Here also is the meaning of the word “testimony” in the Greek:
testimonyG3141
G3141
μαρτυρία
marturia
mar-too-ree'-ah
From G3144; evidence given (judicially or generally): - record, report, testimony, witness.
G3144
μάρτυς
martus
mar'-toos
Of uncertain affinity; a witness (literally [judicially] or figuratively [generally]); by analogy a “martyr”: - martyr, record, witness.
Is it coincidence that the Strong’s reference of origin is numbered G3144???

We find the very next chapter of Revelation gives us a specific number of one hundred fourty four thousand.
Being mindful that Scripture explains itself, the NUMBER referred to in Rev 6:11 can be found in the very next chapter. Realizing that the King James Version does not include the word NUMBER, no connection can be made and the verses remain a mystery.
Rev 7:2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
Rev 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
Now what does it mean to be “sealed”?
Joh 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Neh 9:38 And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.
Neh 9:38(Darby) And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, and our priests are at the sealing.
Isa 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
See also “Seal vs. Oath” for further expansion on “sealed” as it applies to entering into Covenant by the keeping of the commandments.
