While everyone wants to blame Constantine for the changeover to Sunday as the Sabbath, he might need to be absolved of the crime.
Apparently, a little known fact which has had very little if any publicity is this:
Constantine desired to keep peace in all the land, so in order to keep the Jewish communities at peace he declared the Saturday Sabbath the Day of Rest and also made and declared Sunday the Day of Worship for Christians. Of course this aligned with his own Sunday pagan worship too.
It wasn't until about 30 years AFTER his death, that the Council of Laodicea (and we all know what Jesus had to say about the Laodiceans) renounced the 7th day Sabbath, took it off the law books and declared Sunday the day of both rest and worship.
And this is the origin of what we know as our "weekend".
