Contracted from an unused root meaning to sidle off; a side; figuratively an adversary: - (be-) side.
There seems to be a connection between these verses and the words used.
God gave Adam a “helpmeet”. In the Hebrew understanding, she is called “Ezer Kenegdo”. In Skip Moen’s book “Guardian Angel” an indepth study of what this really means as it relates to both man and woman, husband and wife and the roles and responsibilities of each which are seen as equal, quite equal, yet different roles.
The wife or “helpmeet” is an adversary to her husband but not in the way of “adversary” as it is used to define the evil one. She is the one who challenges the man when he needs help. She is the mainstay, the anchor that “helps” to keep him grounded. There is much more explained in Skip Moen’s book and any woman who finds herself in the spiritual leadership role in her family and feels angst because of it, thinking her husband should be taking up that mantle, should MOST definitely read this book and it should be read to the entire family. We have been fed yet more lies about our roles as women and men. Our current indoctrination of the male and female roles do not reflect the image of God accurately. The two halves are equal yet different and make the whole which is the more reflective of the person of God.
The two become one flesh. Bride and Bridegroom. Jesus and His Bride, Israel. The Law and the Spirit.
When Israel was a nation united in matrimony to her God, she was invincible, powerful, victorious and blessed. When Israel split and became divided, that divine power and blessing were removed from the nation as a whole and it remains this way even today.
The goal then would be to reunite the twelve tribes, bringing them into agreement to come together as one. To return (Teshubah).
We find within the Jewish communities,(The House of Judah) mostly the tribe of Judah, Levi, Benjamin and a smattering of the other ten.
We find in Christianity, mostly those who would be mainly of the House of Israel (whom Jesus said He came for the lost sheep of the House of Israel).
The enemy has done great damage to both and to his advantage it is crucial to keep them divided.
The House of Judah has kept the Law, the Torah. However, their rabbinical leaders have indoctrinated their people to reject the Messiah Jesus and the writings of the New Testament. They have decreed it taboo to even talk with anyone who is not a Jew and to refuse the Gospel to be spoken to them and to despise everyone else they refer to as “Gentiles”.
Christianity has done the same. The doctrinal teaching of the Law is done away with, that Christians are Gentiles and the focus is exclusively on the writings of the NT.
Just as Adam needs Eve, a husband needs his wife, the whole nation of Israel must be reunited. The two are found among Judaism and Christianity. Christians need what Judaism has and Judaism needs what Christians can offer. The two must become ECHAD, ONE.

In Jeff Benner’s Mechanical Genesis, Jacob’s name is defined as “HE RESTRAINS”.
If we embrace that, two things become clear:
- Jacob took nothing from Esau that truly belonged to him because Esau was never supposed to have it to begin with. The struggle in the womb of Rebecca was due to the enemy overcoming Jacob at that time.
Rebecca was given a prophetic word about her unborn children. Her participation in what has been misleadingly called “deception” was in fact, her attempt to set things right by the Word of God that was spoken to her.
Recall that Esau despised his birthright. Would a true firstborn son do that?
Jacob lost the struggle in the womb, but set it right later in Genesis chapter 32. He struggled with God and prevailed.
- The words of Paul in various translations are proof there is a connection between Jacob/Israel as the one who restrains the enemy at this time. Most Christians have been influenced by the KJV version, but the word “letteth” steers them away from understanding.
2Th 2:7(KJV) For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

Just as Eve’s role is to be opposing to Adam in that she keeps him in line spiritually (that was her original mission which she messed up); so too the entire nation of Israel’s mission was to oppose worldly ways and things and to teach and lead and restrain the enemy’s attempts to gain full control.
The “rapture” then would be those who descend from the lineage of the nation of Israel, that is of Jacob’s twelve sons who have been scattered to the four corners of the earth. It is their righteousness, prayers and faith that have kept the enemy at bay, essentially RESTRAINING evil. Yes, evil is here with us to be sure, but it has not yet been given full reign over the earth because Jacob’s children have been here to keep hold. The time is coming however, when Jacob who restrains will be taken out of the earth and evil will overrun and increase rapidly and those left behind will be subject to that power.
