Below are select excerpts of John 3:36 from a few different bible translations.
Please NOTE the differences found in the second half of the verse with regard to either “believing not” or “obeying not”.

John 3:36

(ASV) He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

(Bishops) He that beleueth on the sonne, hath euerlastyng lyfe: He that beleueth not the sonne, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abydeth on hym.

(DRB) He that believeth in the Son hath life everlasting: but he that believeth not the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him.

In the above Strong’s, please NOTE the Greek words used for the first “believeth” and the second “believeth”. They are NOT the same.

The leaders of the Christian body of Christ should be held liable for the egregious act of complying with the giants of the denominational organizations who have forcibly promoted disinformation which has led the sheep down a path of destruction.

The scribes [translators of published bibles] WILL be held accountable for their actions, Jesus said and declared as much in all His WOES to them. Jeremiah knew of this in his day also:
Jeremiah 8:8

(ASV) How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of Jehovah is with us? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes hath wrought falsely.

(Bishops) Howe dare ye say then, we are wyse, we haue the lawe of the Lorde among vs? Truely in vayne hath he prepared his penne, and vainely haue the writers written it.

(Brenton) How will ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? In vain have the scribes used a false pen.

Jesus KNEW what the scribes had done because Jesus [The Great I AM] was and IS the TRUE AUTHOR of the Torah given through His servant Moses.

When a layperson reads John 3:36, they are led to believe something that does not provide the fuller picture of Truth as Jesus wants us to know.

To “believe” and to “believe not” can mean we either accept it as being real or we do not.

To “obey” or “obey not” means we either choose to walk in the Will of the Father and His Son, or we do not.

The Greek word for the second occurrence of “believeth not” is G544

It is where we get our word for “apathy”. Our modern understanding of this word is “lack of feeling or emotion”, “indifference” has been narrowed down in definition.

Consider that to be “apathetic, one would not care about anything either way, so no action takes place.
To be disobedient, to disobey is an action. To disbelieve, to not believe to be unbelieving requires thought, mind, opinion action on the part of that person.

In this case, in this context of John 3:36, we find that the modern understanding of this Greek word and the English word/s used in its place, are different enough to be taken under consideration when comprehending the entire meaning.

It’s truly a blessing that other translations have conveyed this, that the translators who used “obey not” or “disobeyed” had a greater understanding of the proper meaning. This is yet another reason to study from more than one translation.

Pastors and church leaders for whom the body of Christ lean to for learning, need to wake up and realize that Truth is paramount and especially when they have this responsibility to the church community of believers. This however, does not excuse the individual from pursuing these things themselves and they have as duty and obligation to share it when they discover these truths.

Every single believer should have reference material available to them so that they can know the original ancient languages.
