Many Christians are taught, as part of “the law is done away with”, that Jesus has nothing to do with the Levite priesthood. That because there is a new testament which “does away with the law”, there is also a new priesthood this being part and parcel of “Replacement Theology”. Yet, a closer look at the original Hebrew language reveals more than what we have been told.

I submit that Jesus was and is YHWH, the Elohim of Israel, that His Torah, the Instructions He gave Moses to write down for His Children, are the Royal Edicts of our King and throughout the Scriptures we find a repeating theme showing that once a king declares it, His word must stand forever. Do you trust God? Then trust His word as He said “ I am a God that does not change!”

Mal 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Note ALSO, in Ezekiel we are told, the sons of Zadok have this privilege to come near to YHWH:

Eze 43:19  And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young bullock for a sin offering.

So…..WHO are the sons of Zadok and what lineage are they specifically:

 2Sa 8:17  and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Seraiah was scribe;

WHO is Ahitub:

1Sa 14:3  and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod.

Num 1:7  Of Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

Luk 3:23  And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

1Sa 14:3  And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

Luk 3:24  Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

Luk 3:25  Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

Luk 3:26  Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,

Luk 3:27  Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,

שׁבע

shâba‛

shaw-bah'

A primitive root; properly to be complete, but used only as a denominative from H7651; to seven oneself, that is, swear (as if by repeating a declaration seven times): - adjure, charge (by an oath, with an oath), feed to the full [by mistake for H7646], take an oath, X straitly, (cause to, make to) swear.

o-lawm', o-lawm'

From H5956; properly concealed, that is, the vanishing point; generally time out of mind (past or future), that is, (practically) eternity; frequentative adverbially (especially with prepositional prefix) always: - always (-s), ancient (time), any more, continuance, eternal, (for, [n-]) ever (-lasting, -more, of old), lasting, long (time), (of) old (time), perpetual, at any time, (beginning of the) world (+ without end). Compare H5331, H5703.

H5956

עלם

‛âlam

aw-lam'

A primitive root; to veil from sight, that is, conceal (literally or figuratively): -  X any ways, blind, dissembler, hide (self), secret (thing).

This is not a new priesthood in the sense of replacing the Levites. It is a priesthood that comes directly under the power and rule of the King of Salem (Shalom), the King of righteousness, that being our King (David’s Son ) and our High Priest forever (David’s Son). Jesus is our King and our Priest, our High Priest.

This is not something that we only find in what most call the “New Testament”. There is no new testament as nothing has been replaced, instead it has been RENEWED. That is why in the Hebrew, what is commonly titled as New Testament is actually Brit Chadasha. This means Covenant RENEWED. Not replaced. There is a distinction.

We must look to the word CHADASHA to see how it is tied to RENEW. While there are several words in the family of K-D-SH, we must understand that the original Hebrew words contained NO VOWELS. They were added later under the guise of helping people to pronounce the words and also to expand definitions in order to change how entire verses might be understood or more correctly, misunderstood.

The “LAW OF FIRST MENTION” allows us to know the truth of the true meaning of the same word found after the first occurrence. So, the first place we find mention of CH-D-SH is in Genesis in connection with the seventh day we know as Sabbath:

Gen 2:3  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

H6942  “sanctified”

קדשׁ

qâdash

kaw-dash'

A primitive root; to be (causatively make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally): - appoint, bid, consecrate, dedicate, defile, hallow, (be, keep) holy (-er, place), keep, prepare, proclaim, purify, sanctify (-ied one, self), X wholly.

BLOOD is used to sanctify and make the things of God Holy here on this earth in His earthly tabernacle.  Sanctifying something renews it. It doesn’t remove it or replace it; it renews it. THIS is what the Brit Chadasha is all about: The RENEWAL of the SAME Covenant that God made with Israel in the wilderness. A King’s word stands and He cannot go back on it; but He can find a loophole and that loophole has everything to do with the blood.

The RENEWED Covenant (new testament) was renewed by virtue of a CHANGE in the TYPE of Blood. No longer temporary corruptible animal blood that only lasted as long as the next infraction of sinning; but this time a once and for all atonement which covers past, present and future through the Divine, sinless and Eternal Blood of the Father through His son Jesus Christ.

This was needed because God knew His Children Israel would be scattered because of their idolatry; He also knew that He would cause them to forget their heritage and so they would assimilate further into heathen nations, embracing their culture, traditions and languages. However, the original Covenant that the Children of Israel entered into at Sinai, was binding forever and all the descendants of the original people of Israel are legally bound to it. This would mean they would commit sin after sin, breaking commandment after commandment in IGNORANCE. This state of IGNORANCE is crucial in understanding WHY Jesus came in the first place.

It is of this same Covenant we find that the High Priest, once a year, enters in to the Holy of Holies to atone for the sins of Israel, those known sins and those committed in ignorance. There are 12 verses found in Torah, in Leviticus and Numbers whereby we are told that the High Priest atones for the sins of the Children of Israel as they sin in ignorance, not knowing they have done wrong. According to the commandments of God, certain sins meant death and others meant their souls would be cut off. God cannot go back on His word. If He was wishy washy, what trust could we have in Him?? If a child has a parent who gives out a certain rule to obey, then changes their mind, how will that child learn anything, or more to the point, how would he ever trust his father???

Until we are able to fully grasp the concept of the Renewed Blood and the unfaltering fact that God’s word will never change, we will continue to only get a partial gleaning of the Truth. Perhaps that is what Paul meant when he said that “Israel in part, has been blinded”:

Rom 11:25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

1Co 13:9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

1Co 13:11  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1Co 13:12  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

We must understand that the priesthood has not changed, but the blood has. We must understand that YHWH declared this to the Children of Israel:

Exo 19:5  Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Exo 19:6  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Exo 19:7  And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

Exo 19:8  And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

    (2Sa 8:17) And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;

(2Sa 15:24) And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.

(2Sa 15:25) And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:

(2Sa 15:35) And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king's house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

(2Sa 18:22) Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

(1Ch 24:31) These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.

(Eze 44:15) But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:

(Eze 48:11) It shall be for the priests that are sanctified of the sons of Zadok; which have kept my charge, which went not astray when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went astray.

  • I believe this applies also to this study:

(Eze 40:46) And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
