During Messiah’s final hours before death, He left us with some very important examples of the Torah in motion. One of those things Messiah did is in John 12:

Joh 13:1 And before the Festival of the Passover, יהושע knowing that His hour had come that He should move out of this world unto the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

Joh 13:2 And supper taking place, the devil having already put it into the heart of Yehuḏah from Qerioth, son of Shimʽon, to deliver Him up,

Joh 13:3 יהושע, knowing that the Father had given all into His hands, and that He had come from Elohim and was going to Elohim,

Joh 13:4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, and having taken a towel, He girded Himself.

Joh 13:5 After that He put water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the taught ones, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

Joh 13:6 And so He came to Shimʽon Kĕpha, and he said to Him, “Master, do You wash my feet?”

Joh 13:7 יהושע answered and said to him, “You do not know what I am doing now, but you shall know after this.”

Joh 13:8 Kĕpha said to Him, “By no means shall You wash my feet, ever!” יהושע answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Joh 13:9 Shimʽon Kĕpha said to Him, “Master, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

Joh 13:10 יהושע said to him, “He who has had a bath does not need to wash, except his feet, but is clean altogether. And you are clean, but not all of you.”

Joh 13:11 For He knew who would deliver Him up, so He said, “You are not all clean.”

Joh 13:12 So when He had washed their feet and taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

Joh 13:13 “You call me Teacher and Master, and you say well, for I am.

Joh 13:14 “Then if I, Master and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anotherʼs feet.

The world has taken this as a ceremony to be held inside church buildings to “Humble” oneself. I would like to tell you what Messiah was really doing and how wrong mainstream is in their ceremonies. This was not to be humble or express any sort of humility. Messiah was doing Torah. Messiah was acting in His rights and duties as High Priest. What Messiah had done was already written in Torah as a statute of the High Priest. Is there Scripture to back this up……..YES!

Exo 30:17 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 30:18 “And you shall make a basin of bronze, with its stand also of bronze, for washing. And you shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and shall put water in it.

Exo 30:19 “And Aharon and his sons shall wash from it their hands and their feet.

Exo 30:20 “When they go into the Tent of Meeting, or when they come near the altar to attend, to burn an offering made by fire to יהוה, they wash with water, lest they die.

Exo 30:21 “And they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a law forever to them, to him and his seed throughout their generations.”

This was YHWH speaking to Moshe and told him to wash the hands and feet of those Priests before they entered the Tent of the Meeting or when they came to the Altar. Do you see that YHWH said “And it shall be a LAW forever to them”? This was the act Messiah was carrying out with His disciples. He was not trying to be anything except obedient to what had already been written in Torah.

What was Messiah telling His talmidim without spoken explanations? He was telling them they were going to go out into the world on His behalf as Priests. They would then be the ones who would stand in the position as High Priests. Just as Moshe did the first washing of the High Priests, Messiah was doing the same with the ones who would have the responsibility of Priests upon the Earth.

From my former church days, the foot washing ceremony would give the opportunities of those who had grudges, to wash the feet of the one with whom they had ill feelings. A ceremony to humble themselves before man and god with zero backing from Scripture. How unscriptural this was. As you can see from Scripture, foot washing is meant to cleanse the feet of those who would become Priest after Messiah left this planet.

One may ask why the cleansing of the feet. For the same reason the High Priest would put a drop of blood on the right foot big toe of the Priest. It was a rite of sanctification that the Priest would take his step in purity, each step he took was anointed. The drop of blood the Kohen HaGadol put on the three body parts of the up and coming Kohen all had specific meanings. The talmidim/disciples were about to be on their own without the physical Kohen HaGadol at their sides, going into the world to deliver the message of Messiah. They became the Priests of YHWH and could not have assumed that position if Messiah had not washed their feet according to the law given by YHWH to Moshe as a law forever.

This was also the reason the Brass Laver was stationed right out side the main entrance to the Temple. The Kohen HaGadol had to be physically clean as well as spiritually clean when he stood before Elohim to perform his duties in the Temple. If his feet had been dirty before entering the Temple, YHWH would have taken his life.

We see this ceremonial law outside of its intended purpose when done in any other fashion then as Scripture has quoted to us. I hope you can see this is why Messiah did indeed wash the feet of the disciples and not to show them He was being humbled, but as fulfilling the office of High Priest. Doing as instructed by YHWH Himself. Sanctifying His Priests, preparing them according to Scripture. I hope no one ever looks at this function of the High Priest in the same manner again. It was a serious order when given to Moshe and was to be carried out for all time, forever. Messiah did exactly as He was supposed to do. Praise YHWH!
